Never underestimate the power of songs. Feeling sluggish or weighed down by many things, I turn to music to get me in the right mood. Thanks to inspiring songs I make it through Manila’s worst traffic days, train rides, long airplane rides or even long walks. I’m sharing 7 upbeat, inspiring songs that keep me going and shake the blues away:
- Brave by Sara Bareilles
This was my anthem for 2014, but I still play it often to remind me to become a better version of myself. We are braver than we give ourselves credit for. If you need a cheerleader to push you to take the leap, you can count on Sara Bareilles.
- I Lived by One Republic
If you want to seize the day and live your life to the fullest, this is the song for you.
- Best Day of My Life by American Authors
This is an instant happy song. When you think it, it happens. This song is a good pick me to beat Monday morning blues. So claim it as the best day of your life, and expect one great day coming up!
- Stronger by Kelly Clarkson
I first heard this song in the gym while our instructor, Noah, pushed us to do multiple reps of exercises. “What does not kill you makes you stronger….” is a powerful mantra, not just for carrying heavy weights in the gym, but also facing difficulties in life. Simply empowering!
- I’m On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons
A happy song capturing the exhilaration of dreams coming true!
- Geronimo by Sheppard
You can’t help but jump up when you hear this song. Written by three of members of the Australian band, Sheppard. “Geronimo!” is what you scream when you are about to jump from great heights. While skydivers scream Geronimo, it can also be your battle-cry before taking a big leap.
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow
No one sings it better than Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. With his soothing voice and ukulele playing, I am instantly transported to his homeland, Hawaii. All is well. The sun is shining and only good vibes all around.
These songs make a great playlist for working out too and to get you moving.
